My name is Sharon Vincent and I have been sewing for 45 years, both hand and machine sewing. I caught the handsewing bug from my parents (we would make clothes for my Sindy dolls.) They bought me my first machine when I was 11 years old.
I am a seamstress (or dressmaker) based in the lovely little historic Fenland town that is Chatteris. I have enjoyed living here for 20 years so far and I love feeling a part of the wonderfully diverse community around me.
My passion is quilt making and I have made dozens of them over the years ( some in my quilt gallery below). But my real love is alterations and dressmaking. A skill I learnt at home,at school and then, from the age of 17, in my first full time job. I was in a privileged position to be working for a renown designer dressmakers in Crystal Palace, London. I spent most of my days making ballgowns and evening dresses using both machines and hand sewing.
I have been fortunate enough to be able to help some of my community with their needlework jobs. This has included; many curtains converted from tab tops to pin tucks or taken up or lined, many many new zips supplied and fitted, dozens of hems on skirts and dresses taken up, badges sewn onto jackets, shirts taken in to fit better after weight loss, shirt cuffs converted for cuff links, making cushion and seat covers from scratch, bringing old toys back to life to be enjoyed by future generations.
I have also been lucky enough to have had the privilege of helping some fabulous brides prepare their wedding dresses, by altering them for their big days (along with Mother of the Bride dresses or suits and their bridesmaid's dresses too). Not forgetting the lovely Grooms and the men in their wedding parties. Suit jackets and trousers altered to fit perfectly.
As you see, my list goes on and on. I love what I do and I'm a perfectionist, so, I throw 100% into every job, be it a new zip , a hemline or a wedding dress .
If you have any needlework based questions or issues I might be able to help with, please feel free to contact me.
Below, I have posted a small selection of things that I have done , clothing, soft furnishings and also a number of my quilts, just to give you an idea of what I do and who I am .
Thank you for reading.
Stay safe,
Sharon Vincent
This wedding dress had all 7 layers taken up. I was able to let the bodice out to ensure the comfort of my bride. I put in a bustle so that she could dance the night away at her reception.
This little chap is almost 40 years old! He has lived with his owner since he was a child. He wasn't looking his best so he came to me to be spruced up . I mended his lovely green duffel coat, sewed on his fabulous wooden buttons and tidied up that floppy orange hat. I think he looks very smart and ready for another 40 years with his family.
I would love to hear from customers, both old and new. Send me a message with details on your request, or any questions you have on my services. I will get back to you as soon as possible with an answer.
